Learning Opportunity: Drone Application in Cut Flower Production

In recent years, drones have been more heavily employed in cut flower production to compensate for labor shortages and rising costs. This has been especially true in the areas of:
- Pest and disease scouting
- Pesticide application
- Soil compaction
- Stress monitoring
American Floral Endowment’s upcoming webinar on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as part of its ongoing Grow Pro series, will cover how the modern technology of drones has brought increased precision and sustainability to production practices. Additionally, current and future work regarding drone integration in floriculture production systems will be explored.
The featured speaker for “The Use of Drones in Cut Flower Production” is Dr. Christian Nansen, Associate Professor of Entomology and Nematology at UC Davis. Nansen completed his Ph.D. in zoology at the University of Copenhagen in Demark and has previously held faculty positions at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and the University of Western Australia.
